26 – 27 January 2022, Regional Workshop for Central Asia was held as part of the European Union Outreach Project on the Promotion of Effective Arms Export Controls.

The event was held with the assistance of BAFA (German Federal Office for Economics and Export Control) and was held online activity.

The seminar was attended by representatives of Central Asian countries from the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

This workshop builds closely on the previous outreach events as well as on the recent geopolitical developments in the region. The workshop kicks off with updates on the newest developments in the field of export control and continues with topics on prevention of diversion and illicit trafficking and trade of firearms, which are current and important issues for the Central Asia region. Furthermore, the second workshop day puts a special spotlight on regional and interagency cooperation.

Mr. Taalaibek Bektashev, Head of the Center for Non-Proliferation and Export Control, made a presentation on “Regional cooperation as a valuable means to strengthen arms trade control”.
