On September 17-18, 2019, in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, in the framework of the European Union’s Outreach Project to Promote Effective Arms Export Controls, implemented by the German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA), the regional seminar for Central Asia and the Caucasus was held.
At the opening of the event, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kazakhstan Dr. Tilo Klinner and official representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan, BAFA and the European Union delivered welcoming speeches.
The seminar was attended by representatives of the state authorities of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, as well as experts from BAFA and the European Union in the field of export control of military goods from Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, and the United Kingdom, as well as representatives of the Center for Non-proliferation and Export Control from Kyrgyzstan.
During the event, participants presented information on national export control systems for military products, discussed common challenges, prospects and possible aspects of cooperation in this area.
Mr. Taalaibek Bektashev, Head of the Center for Nonproliferation and Export Control, made a presentation on the Center’s work in the field of optimization of legislation on control of military products and on the experience of regional cooperation. As a result of the presentation, the issues of assistance in the sphere of optimization of national legislation, taking into account the best international practices of the European Union countries, were discussed in bilateral format.
