On February 2, 2023, an interdepartmental meeting was held to discuss the draft law on biological safety.

On February 2, 2023, an interdepartmental meeting was held in the building of the Republican Center for Quarantine and Especially Dangerous Infections of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic to discuss the draft law on biological safety.

It should be noted that the Action Plan of the Kyrgyz Republic for the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1540 (approved by Resolution No. 340 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic dated December 24, 2021) sets out the task of developing a draft Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On Biological Safety in the Kyrgyz Republic”.

At the same time, in order to fulfill this task, the bill must be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic for approval and further promotion by the second quarter of 2023.

By the specified decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, the main executors of these tasks are the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic.

In this regard, the meeting participants discussed the status quo of the bill being developed. In addition, the bill itself was discussed article by article, as well as further steps to refine and promote it.

The event was attended by representatives of state bodies, organizations and institutions, including from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision, the Ministry of Defense, the Republican Center for Quarantine and Highly Dangerous Infections, the Department of Disease Prevention and the State Sanitary – epidemiological surveillance, the National Institute of Public Health, the Veterinary Research Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, the International Higher School of Medicine and the Center for Non-Proliferation and Export Control.
