On July 26-27, 2022, in the city of Nur-Sultan, Hilton Astana Hotel, Republic of Kazakhstan, with the support of the European Union Information Project on Export Control of Military Products, implemented by the German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA), a bilateral Kyrgyzstan-Kazakhstan seminar on information exchange on the role of technical assessments in the export control process and ways to best include and apply technical expertise in export control procedures was held.
The main goal of the seminar was to provide participants from the Kyrgyz and Kazakhstani licensing and customs agencies with an opportunity to find different options at the decision-making stage and to exchange ideas with various experts. In this regard, stakeholders were invited to help establish national identification centers. The event provides a basis for subsequent work with partners to develop national export control identification systems.
A representative of the Center on Nonproliferation and Export Control, as well as representatives of government agencies, institutions, and non-governmental organizations of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan participated in the seminar.
In addition, it should be noted that, pursuant to the plan of action of the Kyrgyz Republic to implement United Nations Security Council resolution 1540 (2022-2025), approved by Decision No. 340 of 24 December 2010 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, the competent State bodies are taking steps to establish a regulatory and legal framework for the identification of goods subject to export control in the Kyrgyz Republic.
