The Center for Non-Proliferation and Export Control, with the assistance of the UN FAO, held a training on biosafety in the context of the implementation of the Cartagena Protocol at the end of April 2024.
The event was attended by representatives of ministries, departments, agencies, institutions and organizations of the Kyrgyz Republic involved in regulating the country’s biosafety sphere (the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health) – a total of 50 people.
The training covered the main elements of biological safety, international treaties, conventions in the field of biosafety, including the Cartagena Protocol, the Nagoya – Kuala Lumpur Additional Protocol, as well as such important international treaties as the Biological Weapons Convention, the Chemical Weapons Convention.
During the training, as part of the Panel Discussion on Gender Issues, a presentation was also made about the WINCA Network, in terms of its main goals and objectives.
Participants responded with interest to the information about the Network; it should be noted that 90% of participants were women.
