The First Annual Meeting of the Women in Nuclear Network of Central Asia (WINCA)

 

The First Annual Meeting of the Women in Nuclear Network of Central Asia (WINCA) was held from 24 to 27 June in Larnaca, Cyprus, at the Cyprus Training Centre for Land, Offshore and Port Security (CYCLOPS).

The meeting was organized by the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) with the support of the US Department of Energy/NNSA/International Nuclear Security Office and the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The agenda of the meeting covered the progress of the Network since its launch in 2023, its sustainability strategy and future promotion of the Network. The agenda also included presentations by regional and international experts on their work in CBRN security and activities aimed at capacity building and attracting talent to the nuclear and related industries. The program concluded with a demonstration of mobile radiation detection equipment and other specialized equipment. Representatives of the nuclear industry, non-proliferation of WMD, educational, medical state and non-state institutions from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as partner countries took part in the annual meeting. A representative of the Center for Non-Proliferation and Export Control, being a member of this WINCA Network and the coordinator from Kyrgyzstan, also took part in the work of this event and spoke as a speaker in two sessions of the meeting.
