On 23 March 2019, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sooronbai Zheenbekov, signed the Law “On the accession of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Protocol on the Prohibition of the Use in War of Asphyxiating, Poisonous or Other Gases, and of Bacteriological Methods of Warfare”, known as the Geneva Convention.
The law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on 13 February 2019 and will enter into force ten days after its official publication.
The Law was developed as part of the implementation of the Action Plan of the Kyrgyz Republic on the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 1540 for 2017-2019.
Thus, Kyrgyzstan was one of the first countries of the post-Soviet space to accede to this international document.
