Consultative meeting on the implementation of the National Biosafety Mechanism in the Kyrgyz Republic as part of the implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
From September 11–13, 2023, at the Rainbow Recreation Center (Issyk-Kul region, Kyrgyz Republic), within the framework of the FAO/GEF project: “Implementation of the National Biosafety Structure in the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety,” a Consultative meeting was held with participation of the Project Steering Committee, Interdepartmental Working Group, Technical Group and other interested parties, including representatives of authorized government bodies.
The event was held in a hybrid format: in person and with an on-line connection for international experts.
As part of this event, the following were reviewed: Progress in implementing the work plan for the 1st half of 2023, Gender aspects within the project, Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Additional Protocol, Legislation regulating Living Modified Organisms / Genetically Modified Organisms (LMOs/GMOs) as an example experience of the Republic of Belarus and Serbia.
Representatives of the Center for Nonproliferation and Export Control presented two presentations at this event: Analysis of national legislation in the field of biosafety (Mr. Taalaibek Bektashev) and Activities of the Center for Biological Safety (Mr. Marat Sadykov).
Taking this opportunity, the Center expresses gratitude for the hosting and participation at this event of the organizer of the meeting – the FAO Representation in the Kyrgyz Republic and directly its FAO/Cartagena team.
